About Us
Barbara J. Bosco, Artist
Already twelve summers ago, while walking near our home, I found two dead Monarch Butterflies. I brought them to my studio, just to admire their beauty, and they decorated my work table for quite awhile.
One morning, while working with my Sterling jewelry, I decided to cut a small oval from one of the wings and try as an insert. The results were beautiful, and for the rest of the summer, I had my family and friends on a deceased-only butterfly lookout.
While online, I typed butterfly wings and clicked search, surprisingly finding breeders, butterfly farms and conservatories all over the world. Many kind people agreed to send their "naturally expired," and I immediately became butterfly enamored! Because most species have such a short
life span, there is a consistent source of wings. The sheer beauty and variety of more than 100 species continue to amaze me to this day, with innumerable pattern designs and color combinations. Plus the fact, that the symbolism of rebirth, regeneration, and renewal carries a meaningful message to most everyone.
Because it was the Monarch butterfly that inspired my JOYFUL work, a portion of the purchase price of each Monarch item sold, will be donated to Monarch Watch and the Michoacan Reforestation Project.
After awhile, it became imperative for me to see the butterflies ALIVE, and because photography is my second love, www.wingtales.com was created. How in AWE I am with the beauty of our spectacular creation; I am thrilled to be able to share the delicate gracefulness of these fantastic jewels of Nature in jewelry, glass art, cards and prints!
